The tallest skyscraper in the world, an indoor ski resort, creating an chain of islands so that property owner’s can have their own private beaches…Dubai is the mecca of what can be done when it comes to architecture. Announced last week, their next ambitious effort will be the Water Discus Hotel, a hotel where the rooms are completely submerged in the water.
Deep Ocean Technology (DOT), the company behind the design, the hotel will consist of two sets of discs—one above water and one below. The discs will be connected by a central shaft that includes stairs and an elevator. There will also be three adjustable columns connecting the upper and lower sections that are moveable for added stability in case of environmental changes.
The top disk will have a helipad, a dive center which will be set underwater and feature a decompression chamber. There will also be the usual features of a luxury hotel including a spa and fitness room. The underwater section will be underwater at a depth of 33 feet (10m), and will host 21 two-guest bedrooms.
