Yesterday, the Olympic committee sent eight Olympic badminton players home for intentionally trying to lose to get a better seed in the second round. The eight came from women’s double’s teams from Indonesia, China, and South Korea.
It was a harsh penalty to give to players for trying to get an advantage from the rules set up for the event.
“This is my last competition. Goodbye Badminton World Federation (BWF), goodbye my beloved badminton,” Chinese shuttler Yu Yang wrote on her Weibo micro blog. “We … only chose to use the rules to abandon the match.”
Here’s some footage of one of those matches where both teams were in a heated battle for who could intentionally hit the net the best.
After seeing that what do you think, should they have been disqualified from the Olympics?
